Silk Care Guide
Caring for Your Soft Sundays Silk
At Soft Sundays, we use only 100% Grade 6A Mulberry Silk — the finest natural silk available. This extraordinary fibre is celebrated for its luminous sheen, temperature-regulating properties, and incredible softness. But true luxury requires mindful care. Follow these guidelines to ensure your Soft Sundays piece remains a cherished part of your wardrobe for years to come.
Why Silk Requires Special Care
Silk is a natural protein fibre, similar in structure to human hair. It is delicate, responsive to heat, and sensitive to harsh chemicals. The same properties that make it feel so extraordinary against your skin — its fineness, its natural sheen — also mean it must be treated with care. Think of it the way you would care for a cashmere sweater or a fine leather bag: with intention.
Washing
We strongly recommend professional dry cleaning to preserve the colour, sheen, and integrity of your silk. If you choose to hand wash at home, use cold water only and a pH-neutral, silk-specific detergent. Submerge the garment and gently agitate the water with your hands. Never rub, scrub, or wring the fabric. Rinse thoroughly in cold water until all detergent is removed. Machine washing, even on a delicate cycle, is not recommended.
Drying
Never tumble dry silk. After washing, lay the garment flat on a clean, dry towel and roll it gently to absorb excess moisture — do not twist or wring. Unroll and lay flat on a drying rack in a shaded area. Direct sunlight will fade the colour and weaken the fibres over time.
Ironing and Steaming
A handheld garment steamer is the safest way to refresh your silk and restore its natural drape. If ironing is necessary, turn the garment inside out, ensure it is slightly damp, and use the lowest heat setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Storage
Store your silk skirt on a soft, padded hanger in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid plastic garment bags, as silk needs to breathe. For long-term storage, a breathable cotton garment bag is ideal.
By caring for your Soft Sundays silk with the attention it deserves, you are protecting an investment piece designed to last a lifetime.
